Food processing is the transformation of raw agricultural products into food, usually in a powder form, or into one particular form of food. Food processing involves various types of processing, including food manufacturing, commercial food processing, domestic food processing, and food processing for personal consumption. Food processing can be a very simple process that only uses boiling, steaming, or cold processing to convert the food into its powder form, or it can be a more complicated process that involves heat treatment, freezing, pasteurization, fermentation, milling, and screening, as well as various types of food packaging and storage processes. Food processing has contributed to the world food supply in several ways. Firstly, food processing removes any naturally occurring toxins or microorganisms that exist in the food. This makes food much safer to eat, as the food will have fewer toxins that may cause illness or even death.

Mechanical food processing tends to include things such as removal of harmful byproducts, stabilizing low quality proteins, manufacturing higher quality protein shakes and so on. Of course food processing doesn't just remove undesirable characteristics and waste products, but it also creates food that has a longer shelf life, is tastier, has more nutritional value and is better for you in general.
