Medicina herbal y COVID largo: Nuevas retos para la investigación

Introducción: La comprensión de la fisiopatología del COVID largo y su tratamiento por medio de la medicina tradicional (específicamente la medicina herbal), es un tema de interés creciente dada la prevalencia en actual del COVID largo en diferentes poblaciones y las complicaciones en el bienestar, calidad de vida y funcionalidad de los afectados por estas secuelas persistentes. Objetivo: Analizar la pertinencia de los estudios en medicina herbal para los procesos de tratamiento del COVID largo y consideraciones desde la salud pública. Desarrollo: Posterior a la revisión de literatura se estructuraron 3 apartados principales: 1) COVID largo una problemática emergente de la salud pública, 2) Avances en medicina herbal y COVID largo, 3) Consideraciones para el abordaje del COVID largo desde la medicina herbal, en el primero se analizaron aspectos como la prevalencia y complicaciones ocasionadas por el COVID largo en el marco de la salud pública, en el segundo se enfatizo las investigaciones realizadas hasta la fecha de medicina herbal y el abordaje de pacientes con COVID largo, mientras que para el último se describieron las limitaciones y oportunidades para la investigación y tratamiento de esta fisiopatología emergente desde la medicina herbal. Recomendaciones finales: Se evidencia la necesidad de reconocer la importancia de un seguimiento interdisciplinario con un enfoque holístico que incluya aspectos como la nutrición, fisioterapia y la intervención psicológica; con el fin de encontrar respuestas a los tratamientos más favorables para la población objeto de estudio desde la medicina herbal.
