ABSTRACT
This review provides an updated state-of-the-art view on advances in the use of music as a therapy for dementia, taking advantage of the growing interest in non-pharmacological interventions. This work focuses on analyzing the positive effect of music on cognitive function in people with dementia, using a comprehensive review of scientific studies published from 2019 to 2024. Through systematic searches carried out in databases such as PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus, using specific MeSH terms and strict inclusion/exclusion criteria to ensure a correct selection of articles. The results obtained according to the reviewed studies on non-pharmacological therapies focused on music, highlight the possible positive impact on cognitive activity with patients with dementia. The conclusions indicated that most of the articles used have focused on research into Alzheimer's type dementia, excluding the other types of dementia because they are insufficiently documented.
