Abstarct

Although the epic of the Râmâyana is held to be one of the literary mainstays of Hinduism, it has been anything but a fixed text, engendering a number of alternative versions all over South and Southeast Asia. Likewise, whereas Râma usually embodies essential social values in mainstream Hinduism, non-orthodox religious currents have resorted to and adapted the Râma figure in novel ways. This paper seeks to assess possible tantric and pseudo-tantric expressions concerning Râma both in the scriptural and the liturgical spheres of the Râma cult.
